From choosing the right heat to knowing exactly when to remove the eggs from the pan, these easy step-by-step tips will help you create soft, fluffy scrambled eggs with perfect texture and flavor every single time. Step-by-Step: How to Make Perfect Scrambled Eggs Step 1: Crack and Whisk Step 2: Heat the Pan Step 3: Add the Eggs Step 4: Stir Gently Step 5: Remove Before Fully Set Common Scrambled Egg Mistakes Cooking Over High Heat Over-Stirring Overcooking Forgetting to Season How to Make Different Styles of Scrambled Eggs Soft and Creamy Scrambled Eggs Fluffy Diner-Style Eggs Cheesy Scrambled Eggs Loaded Breakfast Scramble Helpful Tips for Better Eggs What to Serve With Scrambled Eggs Breakfast Favorites Brunch Ideas Storage and Reheating Tips Frequently Asked Questions How many eggs per person? Standard serving is 2-3 eggs per person Can scrambled eggs be made ahead? Yes, they can. But in my opinion, this is one of those foods that are best served immediately after cooking. Scrambled eggs can be cooked, then, once cooled, placed in an airtight container and refrigerated for 3-4 days. They can also be frozen in an airtight container for 2-3 months. How should I reheat scrambled eggs from the refrigerator and freezer? Place the thawed scrambled eggs in the microwave, cover with a paper towel, and reheat in 30-second intervals, stirring between each interval. Stovetop reheat takes longer. Just place eggs in a non-stick pan over low heat, stirring gently until heated through. Always thaw eggs in the refrigerator first. Note: Eggs may become a bit rubbery when reheated. They can also dry out, but adding a small amount of cream can help restore the moisture. Final Thoughts Scrambled eggs are one of the simplest dishes to make, yet a few small techniques can completely transform the texture and flavor. With gentle heat, a little patience, and fresh ingredients, you can create soft, fluffy eggs that are full of flavor every single time. Whether you are making a quick weekday breakfast or a slow weekend brunch, mastering scrambled eggs is one of those small kitchen skills that makes cooking feel easier, more enjoyable, and a whole lot more delicious.
Frequently Asked Questions

How many eggs per person?

Standard serving is 2-3 eggs per person

Can scrambled eggs be made ahead?

Final Thoughts

Scrambled eggs are one of the simplest dishes to make, yet a few small techniques can completely transform the texture and flavor.

I had my first “compound butter moment” before I even knew what it was.

As a kid, I remember my dad finishing steaks on the grill with a generous pat of butter and a sprinkle of fresh green onions from the garden. Simple. Delicious. Memorable.

Not quite compound butter—but close enough to spark the idea.

Here’s how you can use it in your own kitchen:

Savory dishes
Melt a slice over steaks, chicken, pork, or fish. Toss it with roasted vegetables. Spread it on warm bread—before or after grilling.

Sweet treats
Pancakes, scones, biscuits, and sweet breads all love a flavored butter. Try honey, cinnamon, or fruit-infused blends.

As a finishing touch
This might be my favorite. Add a slice to hot vegetables or swirl it into a sauce just before serving. It melts into a rich, concentrated burst of flavor.

Flavor Ideas to Get You Started

For Bread

Garlic Herb Butter

Cinnamon Honey Butter

Lemon Dill Butter

Spicy Sriracha Butter

Blue Cheese Butter

Blue Cheese Butter

Chimichurri Butter

Garlic Herb Butter

Lemon Dill Butter

Smoky Paprika Butter

Chive and Shallot Butter

Honey Mustard Butter

Think of these as inspiration—not rules. Mix, match, and make them your own.

Making Compound Butter

Equipment Needed: Mixing bowl, measuring cups and spoons, rubber spatula, parchment paper, or plastic wrap.

Ingredients:

You choose your ingredients, such as:

Always start with softened butter, not melted.

Fresh herbs are best, but dried herbs can work—just adjust amounts.

Spices make a good addition

Storage Tips:

Refrigerate for up to 1–2 weeks.

Freeze for up to 6 months.

Wrap tightly to prevent freezer burn.

Portion into smaller amounts for convenience.

Label with date and flavor (trust me, you’ll forget!).

Thaw in the refrigerator for best results.

Learning to use simple ingredients well—like butter—is a big part of building confidence in the kitchen.

Conclusion

Compound butter is one of those simple kitchen tricks that delivers more than you expect.

It adds flavor. It adds personality. And it turns everyday dishes into something just a little more special.

The best part? You get to make it your own.

So don’t be afraid to experiment. Keep a roll (or two) tucked away in your refrigerator or freezer, ready to bring a finishing touch to whatever’s on the table.

Because yes—butter makes everything better.
But compound butter? That’s where things really start to shine.

1/4 c. unsalted butter

6 large eggs

1/2 c. whole milk

2 c. shredded cheddar cheese, divided

1/2 tsp Kosher salt

1/4 tsp. ground black pepper

2 – 12-oz. cans refrigerated biscuits

Directions

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Fry the sausage in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook until the sausage is done and crumbly. Remove the cooked sausage from the pan using a slotted spoon.

Leave the drippings in the pan. Reduce the heat to medium-low and add butter. Once the butter has melted, sprinkle the flour over the sausage drippings and stir until well combined. Cook for about 2 minutes or until the flour is lightly browned. Continue stirring while adding the milk. Turn the heat up to medium-high as you continue to stir. When the mixture boils and thickens somewhat, turn the heat down to medium-low. At this time, add the salt and black pepper. Continue to simmer, stirring occasionally, for 8 to 10 minutes, allowing the gravy to thicken. Set the gravy aside.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, cheese, salt, and pepper. Once thoroughly combined, pour into a greased 13-by-9-inch baking dish. Remove 1/2 cup of the sausage and set aside. Sprinkle the rest of the sausage over the egg mixture. Place an even layer of biscuits over the sausage. Gradually pour half of the gravy over the biscuits. Scatter the remaining one and a half cups of cheese and the reserved 1/2 cup sausage over the biscuits and gravy, and place in the oven.

Make sure the biscuits are baked thoroughly. The tops should be toasty brown. Bake time is approximately 30 to 35 minutes. If you think the biscuits are browning too quickly, place a piece of tin foil over the top of the casserole dish.

Reheat the leftover gravy right before the casserole is ready to serve. When it comes out of the oven, pour part of it over the casserole. Serve the remaining gravy on the side.

Ingredients

6 cups beef broth (this product comes in various forms, including boxed, canned, wet concentrate, or dry mix. Make beef broth according to the instructions on the package.)

1 lb ground beef (browned and drained)

1 – 14 oz can of diced tomatoes

½ cup small elbow macaroni noodles (You will think this is not enough, but it is plenty.)

1 small onion chopped (about 1/3 cup) (If you prefer to use onion powder, use 1 teaspoon.)

½ tsp powdered garlic

½ tsp black pepper or to your preference

½ tsp salt (Since store-bought broth is often salty enough, I would refrain from adding salt until the end of the cooking time, after tasting the soup first.)

Instructions

Brown and drain the ground beef.

Using a medium soup pot, add 6 cups of beef broth. Add the browned and drained ground beef, tomatoes, chopped onion, black pepper, and garlic powder, and stir to combine. Bring to a boil.

Once your soup base comes to a boil, add the 1/2 cup of small elbow macaroni and stir. Adjust the heat to medium and allow the macaroni noodles to cook for about 10 minutes. Turn the heat off and let it sit for 10 or 15 minutes.

Serve up hot with grilled cheese sandwiches or crusty bread.

Note: You can customize this simple beef soup recipe by omitting the elbow macaroni noodles and adding a 14-ounce bag of mixed vegetables instead. This will quickly create a delicious and hearty beef vegetable soup. It’s an easy change-up to create the #11 quick weeknight meals. Just cook the soup over medium heat until the vegetables are tender, and enjoy a nutritious and comforting meal.

Another Helpful Hack

Here’s a little kitchen hack that will reduce some stress during the busy school week! When ground beef is on sale, grab a few extra packs. When you get home, cook it all up, drain the fat, and let it cool. Next, use quart-size freezer bags and fill each one with about one pound (roughly two cups). Here’s the trick: flatten the bags before sealing them, squeezing out as much air as you can. The flat, square shape not only stacks neatly in your freezer, but it also thaws way faster. Or, if you’re in a hurry, just crumble the frozen meat right into your pot. It’s perfect for tacos, spaghetti, soups, stews, or casseroles—whatever you’ve got on the menu!
